The next generation of motorsports, “AIR RACE X” returns to Shibuya!
AIR RACE X is the next generation of aerial motorsports that combines cutting-edge digital technology with real-world flying. This entirely new competition format and viewing experience brings unprecedented excitement to audiences worldwide.
In this competition, the world’s top pilots with the highest level of flying skills navigate specially designed small aircraft at speeds of up to 400 km/h while withstand gravitational forces of up to 12 Gs.
The pilots fly identical tracks set up at various locations around the world. Each aircraft has precise flight data sensors installed that accurately measure the pilot’s position and time within 3 cm, bringing incredible competition to a remote format.
The 2024 Series consists of two types of races: “Remote Rounds” and “Digital Rounds”. The Remote Rounds streamed online in May and in September, and the Digital Round will be available for viewing online and via XR (Extended Reality) in October.
Shibuya Becomes a Race Venue! This year, in collaboration with the Shibuya Music Festival.
The final race of the 2024 series, the Digital Round, will be held on Saturday, October 19, in collaboration with the Shibuya Music Festival, along with the ability for the public to view the race in Miyashita Park in Shibuya Ward. *Details on other viewing locations will be announced later.
Using XR (AR/VR/MR) technology from the STYLY spatial layer platform, the planes will appear in the streets of Shibuya, allowing spectators to experience the thrilling race up close via smartphones or head-mounted displays.
Highlights of Race 1, which was streamed worldwide on Sunday, May 26, can be viewed on the Air Race X YouTube channel. The next Race 2 is scheduled for September 15.
This year, in addition to the winners of each race, the pilot who accumulates the most points throughout the season will be crowned Series Champion of this historic season.
