Aspiring to be a pilot from an early age, he started gliding in the aviation club after entering Chuo University. In 2009, he became the first Asian pilot to compete in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, a three-dimensional motorsport series sanctioned by the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI).
First victory at the 2016 Chiba tournament. In the 2017 World Series, he won 4 out of 8 races, becoming the first Asian to win the annual overall championship. It is also the first Asian achievement to win the annual overall victory in the top category of motor sports.
