Penalties are broadly divided into two categories: “Time Penalties,” where seconds are added to the flight time, and Did Not Finish (DNF) which results in immediate loss or disqualification for that race.
For violations during a flight, the following seconds are added to the final time.
+1 second
When the maximum speed limit (200 knots / 370 kph) at the Start Gate is exceeded by not more than 3 knots (6 km/h).
When smoke is not emitted continuously from the Start Gate to the Finish Gate, or when the Race Director determines that the smoke is significantly insufficient (e.g., cannot be clearly identified as a continuous trail).
+2 second
When the flight path angle exceeds 10 degrees of climb while passing the gate.
When the flight path angle exceeds 5 degrees of descent while passing the gate.
When the flight path does not reach 500 ft. above the Track Baseline between the Turn gate and the Recovery Gate.
When the flight path does not reach 250 ft. above the Track Baseline between the Turn gate and the Recovery Gate.
+3 second
When the aircraft passes the gate while deviating from the specified track width.
When the flight path does not reach 700 ft. above the Track Baseline, or does not rotate at least 315 degrees around its longitudinal axis before crossing the plane of the “Turn Gate”.
For more serious violations or operations involving danger, a DNF ruling is issued, and that heat becomes invalid (recorded as a loss).
When the specified speed at the Start Gate is exceeded by 3 knots (6 km/h) or more.
When the Maximum Load Factor is exceeded, and the RDU (Remote Data Unit) records any Load Factor greater than 12 G. In this case, the pilot must land immediately and inspect the aircraft before the next flight.
When any of the following apply
Penalty for Technical Infraction
Deliberate or intentional disconnection or interference with ARX-supplied race-specific systems, such as the RDU or CCT (cockpit camera), or any of their associated wiring/harnesses, shall result in a Penalty for Technical Infraction.
